J-1 Update: FLEX 10 Slots

The Conrad 30 programs in most states allow for 10 “FLEX” slots. FLEX slots are waivers for physicians who may not be practicing in an area that is a Health Professional Shortage Area or Medically Underserved Area, yet still serves residents in underserved areas.
States have several different requirements when it comes to allotting FLEX slots and many change from year to year. For J-1 physicians who will complete their training in 2018, these maps show which states* are using (or not using) FLEX slots:
